| Case: | Excellent stainless steel 37mm case which has been previously polished in the past with some surface wear from use. The caseback has scratches and shows some signs of being opened. Inside caseback is stamped: 6239 CRS. The bezel has been polished and has some scratches. Some of the numbers/ words on the bezel show some wear and some black paint is gone. The edge of the caseback has some slight indentations between the six o'clock lugs. Between the lugs show some wear and the numbers are all clearly visible. The crystal is a later service replacement and has some light scratches. |

This Daytona is in vintage condition with surface wear consistent with age. The case has been polished and has some scratches and wear. The bezel is in great condition and shows some wear. The dial has remained clean with light patina. The lume has developed patina and some plots show signs of degradation. The three o'clock lume plot is gone. The hour and minute hands are later service replacements. The bracelet is a later service replacement and is in excellent condition.

Rolex came out with the Daytona in 1963 and it is still in production today. Rolex debuted the reference 6262 in 1970 and it would be the second generation of the legendary model. Rolex upgraded the movement caliber for this reference to the caliber 727 which would be the movement of choice for all the manual winding Daytona's going forward. The overall aesthetic was pretty similar to the previous generation with the defining characteristics being the steel bezel and pump style pushers. Rolex offered the 6262 with a silver or black dial and they also offered it with exotic "Paul Newman" variations too. Rolex offered the 6262 for a very short period for approximately one year from 1970 to 1971 and it's one of the rarest Daytona references in general.
The example we have here is the black dial variant with white sub-registers and "Daytona" above the six o'clock hours register. Collectors refer to this variant as the "Blue Daytona" because of the blue Daytona text color. When looking closely at the word you can see it has a blueish grey hue which is only found on this model and some late reference 6239's with black dials.
This watch is in great, honest condition and perfect for someone who wants a classic steel bezel, pump pusher Daytona with a twist. These "blue" 6262s tend to fly under the radar and belong in the "if you know, you know" club which is something we are seeing more collectors gravitating towards.
