Hans Wilsdorf celebrated the Rolex brand's 40th anniversary by releasing the Oyster Perpetual Datejust in 1945. This model was unlike any other timepiece that was currently in the brand's catalog as it was the first wristwatch to offer an automatically changing Date display. The Datejust also utilized the brand's reliable waterproof Oyster case, which debuted in 1926, and the Perpetual movement, which was introduced a few years later in 1931. The Rolex 16013 for sale here today is a vintage example that pairs a slightly more modern aesthetic with vintage features, such as a thicker acrylic crystal, Tritium luminous plots, and a calibre 3035 Perpetual movement.

Condition is as described, shipping was fast. I had an issue getting my bank to send a wire transfer so I asked Bob's Watches to hold the watch for me, as I didn't want to miss out on a birth year two-tone Datejust in this condition and they had no problem doing so. My specific watch is a two-tone black dial with a jubilee bracelit. The gilt markers and hands pop off the matte black dial beautifully. I've been wearing it daily since it arrived and keep stopping to look at it. I imagine it'll dress down well on leather straps and the drilled lug holes will make that simple to change.

This watch is a duplicate of my first Rolex, bought in 1980. Sadly, that watch disappeared on a trip to the Rolex repair facility around 1990. I've looked off and on for a replacement because I really loved the look of the watch. I finally found one. The new old watch seems to be keeping excellent time.
