Omega revived the beloved cal. 321 hand-wound movement in 2019 alongside a stunning platinum edition of the Speedmaster. It wasn't until the following year, in 2020, that we finally saw the release of a stainless steel edition via ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001. Its design is heavily inspired by the ref. 105.003 worn by Gene Cernan during the Apollo 17 mission. However, it also goes by the nickname "Ed White" because the astronaut famously wore a ref. 105.003 Omega while performing NASA's first spacewalk in 1965.
This remarkable Omega features similar proportions as ref. 105.003 and the first three generations of the Speedmaster series with a 39.7mm diameter and thickness of 13mm. If you're interested in swapping out the bracelet, the space between the lugs is 19mm. The dial also remains true to its vintage muse with a similar Speedmaster logo and a slightly warmer ivory hue to the Superluminova plots. While ref. 311.30.40.30.01.001 is vintage-inspired, it also boasts numerous modern elements, such as a ceramic bezel insert with a striking white enamel Tachymeter scale and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on both sides of the case.
